Khi đọc câu có cấu trúc “ Chủ ngữ + ………+ Túc từ/Bổ ngữ, có thể áp dụng các kiến thức ngữ pháp để làm được nhiều câu.

Ví dụ:

I to study TOEIC                     I decided to study TOEIC.

Nếu câu không có động từ như ví dụ ở trên chúng ta không biết chủ ngữ làm gì và trạng thái như thế nào, do đó, câu không có động từ là câu sai, khi làm bài kiểm tra thật nhất định phải:

1.     Tìm động từ trước.

2.     Sau đó xác định cấu trúc ngữ pháp cơ bản.

ĐỪNG BỊ ĐỘNG TỪ GIẢ ĐÁNH LẠC HƯỚNG

Chỗ trống trong mẫu câu “ S + ………+O/C” là của động từ. Trong nhiều trường hợp tuy có một số từ có dạng giống như động từ thật nhưng thật ra không phải là động từ mà được gọi là động từ giả. Điều này dễ gây nhầm lẫn cho nhiều thí sinh. Do đó hãy chú ý đến các    DANH ĐỘNG TỪ có dạng V-ing và ĐỘNG TỪ NGUYÊN MẪU có To +V hoặc Vinfinitive.

Ví dụ:

I offered him a new job.                              I to offer him a new job.

Danh động từ và động từ nguyên mẫu có to có dạng giống với động từ nên dễ gây nhầm lẫn. Nhưng nếu là động từ giả thì không thể nằm ở vị trí của động từ được. Nếu vậy ta phải cần xem xét các dạng này đóng vai trò như thế nào trong câu.

Động từ Have có nghĩa là có  và ăn rất dễ nhớ, nhưng do động từ thường Have và trợ động từ Have có cùng dạng nên quan trọng là phải biết phân biệt hai dạng đó.

Be +………+cụm danh từ: Có túc từ ở sau nên là câu chủ động.

Chủ ngữ đứng đầu câu nên đóng vai trò làm chủ thể của hành động. Vì là chủ thể của hành động nên thường do danh từ đảm nhiệm. 

Có hai loại từ ở vị trí chủ ngữ.

MẠO TỪ VÀ TỪ SỞ HỮU VỚI DANH TỪ

Sau mạo từ (a,an,the) và từ sở hữu (my,his, her, your,their, its, your) chắc chắn phải là danh từ. Mạo từ là từ dùng để làm rõ nghĩa của danh từ theo sau. Do đó sau mạo từ luôn phải là một danh từ kèm theo. Hơn nữa nếu không có danh từ thì các từ sở hữu cũng không tồn tại nên sau từ sở hữu chắc chắn phải là danh từ.

a.     Mạo từ bất định a, an: Chỉ đối tượng không rõ ràng và không xác định được.

Mạo từ bất định có nghĩa là một, danh từ có mạo từ bất định được thể hiện ở số ít.

b.     Mạo từ xác định the. Chỉ đối tượng cụ thể được xác định

Mạo từ xác định chỉ đối tượng cụ thể, chủ yếu dùng khi đã biết đối tượng.

Từ sở hữu đứng trước danh từ mang nghĩa là của ai

Chia động từ phù hợp với ngôi và số của chủ ngữ

1.     Số của danh từ: Danh từ nằm ở vị trí chủ ngữ số ít và số nhiều

Danh từ gắn với (s/es) thể hiện số nhiều: Books, chairs, employees

2.     Số của động từ:

1.     Động từ có gắn e/es thể hiện số ít: expands, needs, requests

2.     Động từ ở dạng nguyên thể thì thể hiện số nhiều.

Ngữ pháp.

1.     Sự khác biệt giữa số ít và số nhiều của động từ chỉ quan trọng khi động từ ở thời hiện tại, còn ở thời quá khứ thì số của danh từ làm chủ ngữ không ảnh hưởng đến việc chia động từ số ít hay số nhiều (ngoại trừ động từ tobe)

BỎ QUA SỰ BỔ NGHĨA CHO DANH TỪ LÀM CHỦ NGỮ

Ví dụ:

The plans for the project is prepared by Mr.Kim

The plans for the project are prepared by Mr.Kim

For the project: Cụm từ bổ nghĩa chữ không phải chủ ngữ của câu.

Để xác định được chủ ngữ chính xác, ta nên bỏ cụm từ bổ nghĩa “ giới từ + danh từ (for the project). Sau đó tìm chủ ngữ và động từ chính xác của câu.

Phương pháp xác định sự hòa hợp về số của chủ ngữ và động từ bằng cách tách cụm từ bổ nghĩa.

1.     Xác định động từ trước

2.     Tìm danh từ để xác định chủ ngữ

-         Tìm danh từ đầu câu để xác định chủ ngữ

-         Nếu có danh từ nằm sau giới từ thì bỏ “giới từ + danh từ” vào dấu ngoặc

-         Cụm từ bổ nghĩa chính là bẫy cần tránh

3.     Nếu nắm vững được cấu trúc “chủ ngữ - động từ” và bỏ qua cụm từ bổ nghĩa sẽ trả lời được câu hỏi về số của chủ ngữ và động từ.

1.     Trạng từ bổ nghĩa cho động từ diễn tả thời gian nơi chốn mức độ và tính từ thường xuyên xảy ra hành động của chủ ngữ.

Thời gian: yesterday, last week, in 1991.

Nơi chốn: at ABC

Mức độ: hard

Tần suất: frequently, never, rarely, sometimes, usually, always.

2.     Vị trí của trạng từ bổ nghĩa cho động từ.

Trạng từ đứng trước động từ - ở giữa chủ ngữ và động từ - có chức năng bổ nghĩa cho động từ.

TRẠNG TỪ THƯỜNG CHEN VÀO GIỮA.
